Robert “Wolfman” Belfour was born on September 11th, 1940 in Holly Springs, Mississippi. His deep blues style and husky voice earned him the nickname “Wolfman”. Growing up on the Hurdle farm in a small plank house, Belfour experienced music unique to Mississippi’s hill country. He’ll tell you that his first memory is of his father, Grant Belfour, playing the resonator guitar. When his father passed in 1953, Belfour was needed to help provide for his family. In Mississippi’s hill country he was neighbor and friend to artists such as Othar Turner, Syd Hemphill, and future label mate Junior Kimbrough. Robert Belfour has proved himself just as unique as the area he hails from. In 1959, he married Norene Norman and moved to Memphis, Tennessee. His music has been featured on compilations, and his two released albums are “Pushin My Luck” (2003) and “What’s Wrong With You” (2000).
