Meet the Artists
Your gift supports the unsung heroes of traditional American music.
Each artist we serve at Music Maker has a different story. Hear two from the artists themselves: Albert White and KeAmber Daniels.
KeAmber Daniels is a member of Faith & Harmony and the musical Vines family, whose multi-generational singing traditions make them the de facto first family of eastern North Carolina gospel. At age 18, she became a single mother at the age of 18 to a special needs child. She is a devoted mom and at 15, her son still requires 24/7 specialized care.
Our new studios in Fountain, NC, located just down the road from KeAmber’s home, have allowed her creative life to blossom despite her rigorous caregiving duties. She has joined vocal forces with her father Anthony ”Amp” Daniels and her cousin Christy Moody to form The Crimestoppers, Music Maker Studios’ in-house backup singers. They have sung on every album we have produced in the new studio and are so terrific, we recorded their first featured album this winter! We can’t wait to share this amazing record with you.
Atlanta-based blues guitarist Albert White hit the road at 16 playing with his uncle, the legendary Piano Red. Unwelcome in hotels in 1958, black musicians often had to sleep on the side of the road in the South. Awoken to a burning cross one night in Greensboro, NC, they thought the KKK was coming to get them. Thankfully, they soon realized it was just a routine meeting there in a farmer’s field and slipped away into the night.
Now 82 years old, Albert has been with Music Maker since 1995 and has performed around the world with dozens of our other partner artists. He has been served by our Sustenance Program for many years, receiving a monthly grant to ensure the safety of his golden years. When we finally opened our new studio in Fountain, NC, last year, recording him was one of our top priorities. His latest album, The Definitive Albert White, was the second record we recorded there. Produced by roots legend Jimbo Mathus of the Squirrel Nut Zippers, it highlights Albert’s heart-warming voice and his accomplished, sensitive touch on the guitar. A true capstone achievement to a career of nearly 70 years – we could not be prouder of Albert or this album.
