8 champions of roots music receive Lifetime Achievement Awards

From performers to promoters, writers to radio hosts, it takes a village to keep American roots music alive. Music Maker Foundation’s Lifetime Achievement Awards honor individuals who have dedicated their lives to doing just that: preserving and contributing to the cultural fabric of American music so this rich heritage can be sustained for generations to come.

This week, we’re proud to honor eight of our latest Lifetime Achievement Award recipients:

Tyjon Harris

Aaron Greenhood

Ben Jaffe (Preservation Hall)

Marvin Badger

Brett Bonner (Living Blues magazine)

Karen Poliski

Cree McCree

Sheila Kay Adams

Our Lifetime Achievement Awards recognize the lifelong musical contributions of artists and others who are committed to the vocation (and not just the profession) of the American traditional musician. Meet these eight extraordinary champions of roots music in the slideshow below.

"I can't believe how much extraordinariness I've been able to be close to, the people I've been able to know, the moments I've had the privilege of creating or being a part of. We are the Music Makers!" - Aaron Greenhood

Your support makes it possible for us to give back to pathbreakers like our Lifetime Achievement Awardees, whose work contributes so much to our cultural heritage. Please consider making a donation to our Sustenance Program today so we can continue supporting the unsung heroes of American music. Together, we can keep this music playing for generations to come.
