New wheels for Alice Vines

Few people know the value of family as well as gospel singer Alice Vines. A pastor and member of award-winning gospel quartet The Glorifying Vines Sisters, Alice comes from a long line of sacred soul singers who have kept this eastern North Carolina tradition in the family for generations. “I just love what I do and my sisters love what we do together,” she said during a Zoom panel discussion in 2022. “The family is knitted together so each one knows what the other is going to do.”

When her brother, the late luthier Freeman Vines, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, Alice sprang into action. She faithfully drove him to and from his doctor’s appointments for years – putting serious wear and tear on her car in the process. By the time of Freeman’s passing this spring, her car was undrivable, leaving Alice without a reliable means of transportation.

Thanks to generous music lovers like you, Music Maker Foundation made an emergency grant to Alice so she could replace her car and get back on the road. Her first big road trip with her new wheels? Going to Raleigh next month to receive the North Carolina Heritage Award with The Glorifying Vines!
