SLIDESHOW: Andy Edmonds at Music Maker Studios
Listening to Andy Edmonds play old-time tunes on his fiddle or banjo, you could be forgiven for thinking you’d traveled back in time to an earlier era of North Carolina music.
Andy is a true Next Generation artist. Mentored from a young age by legendary Mount Airy fiddler and Music Maker partner artist Benton Flippen (1920-2011), he won the Mount Airy Fiddler’s Convention fiddle contest at 19 and quickly gained a reputation for his deep knowledge of old-time traditions from Surry County, where he was born and raised. Since then, he has toured across North America with the Buckstankle Boys and the South Carolina Broadcasters – while continuing to keep Benton’s distinctive playing style alive.
Our co-founders Tim and Denise Duffy have known Andy since he was a teenager; Benton was a beloved Music Maker partner, and Andy released his early album Me and My Fiddle on the Music Maker label back in 2010. Sixteen years later, we were thrilled to reunite with this incredible artist in Fountain, NC to record him again at Music Maker Studios!
Take a peek behind the scenes of our recent recording session with Andy in this week’s photo slideshow below. Look for Andy’s new album in 2027 from Music Maker!
