Slideshow: Kelley Breiding at Music Maker Studios

May was a busy month at Music Maker Studios! From May 13-14, we welcomed Appalachian artist Kelley Breiding to Fountain, NC for a whirlwind album recording session. As always, we are so grateful to producer Jimbo Mathus, in-house studio band Creatures of the Southern Wild, recording engineer John Kilgore, and our generous donors for their support in making this session a success.
A genre-spanning multi-instrumentalist and singer, Kelley Breiding grounds her music in the western North Carolina communities where she has spent much of her life. She is well-versed in the region’s old-time music and plays a mean clawhammer banjo in the famed Surry County Round Peak style – but she is just as comfortable playing rockabilly and classic country songs with her band Kelley and The Cowboys. She is also a recipient of a hurricane relief grant from our Carolina Music Makers Fund.
We had a phenomenal time watching Kelley push her boundaries as an artist and explore new musical ground – exactly the kind . Take a peek behind the studio door in the slideshow below… and look for her new solo album in 2026!
