Welcome Lucas Duffy, Artist Services Coordinator

Lucas Duffy, son of co-founders Tim and Denise Duffy, is a lifelong Music Maker. Born shortly after Music Maker Foundation’s creation in the 1990s, he grew up immersed in our mission and surrounded by the Southern artists we serve.

Now, he is stepping into a new, more formal role on our team. Join us in welcoming Lucas to the Music Maker staff as our new Artist Services Coordinator!

Hey, y’all!

My name is Lucas Duffy and I am the new Artist Services Coordinator. Many of you may know me to some degree as I am also the son of MMF founders, Tim & Denise Duffy. I was raised Music Maker from the start, so I grew up surrounded by Southern artists, from Slewfoot living in the guest house of my childhood home after evacuating New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, to Captain Luke attending most of my birthday parties and holiday get-togethers. Coming back to Music Maker as an adult feels like a homecoming of sorts, and I’m very grateful for the role I’ve been given to step into.

My work supporting seniors started with my grandmother as her health deteriorated heading into her 90s. I took on a caretaker role, taking her to the doctor or the pharmacy or shopping as needed. I began to sit in on her appointments to help her and the doctor understand each other. I received more praise than I really expected both from her, my family, doctors, even passersby on the street for the care I gave and I found it meaningful personally to be able to contribute.

Coming back to Music Maker as an adult feels like a homecoming of sorts.

Last summer, in the midst of this, I also took a gig at Music Maker as the on-site stage manager for Freight Train Blues series. I was the point of contact between the venue, production, and the artists. My main goal was to make sure that the artists were treated with as much respect as they’d find at their biggest show. I would escort them in, get them situated, get them on stage, and send them home with dinner and a smile. That attitude went over well with artists and management and led to a more permanent position at Music Maker.

My role as an Artist Services Coordinator is a direct result of this path I started down years ago, and I’m thankful to be here today. I’m looking forward to lending a hand where it’s needed. I enjoy helping artists get what they need to be well and pursue their craft and give audiences the very best experience at all our shows. I still have that same mindset from Freight Train and chauffeuring my grandmother. I look forward to meeting and reconnecting with all the Music Maker partner artists in the coming months.
