Introducing Music Maker Editions: Lamont Lane
Tiny books. deep roots.
Big news for fans of photography, music, and culture: We’re proud to announce the launch of Music Maker Editions, a new series of small collectible art books from Music Maker Foundation, starting in Fall 2026!
Music Maker Editions presents curated selections from our vast photographic and musical archive in a small, accessible package. Each volume documents a single artist, theme, or body of work. Created in small, collectible runs, these books preserve the stories of the musicians and communities who shape the sounds of the South.
The first book in the series, titled Lamont Lane, is scheduled for release this October. It features stunning tintype portraits of Lamont Lane, a 70-year-old resident of rural Fountain, NC and longtime friend of Music Maker, taken at our studio by our co-founder Tim Duffy.
“These photographs grew out of the years I spent working in Fountain, NC, in a small studio where artists come to reveal themselves,” says Tim. I knew Lamont Lane long before these sessions through the steady work of being neighbors. In the studio, Lamont moved in his own way, standing in the light with the strength and history carried in his body. These tintypes reflect his presence and the friendship that made this work possible.
This wetplate series is part of our community work in Fountain, which began with Hanging Tree Guitars (a photobook documenting the work of luthier Freeman Vines) and continues in our recording and photo sessions at Music Maker Studios.
Lamont Lane will be available for purchase starting October 2026 in a limited run of 300. An additional 200 copies will be granted to Lamont himself to sell in his community.
Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks! In the meantime, meet Lamont himself in the video below, taken in downtown Fountain, NC this summer.
